About Jennifer

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, License #107658 and Parent Coach. I currently see clients in private practice in Rancho Penasquitos as well as online. I also consult and supervise at schools.

I am so glad you are here. I totally get the overwhelm, frustration, and pure exhaustion of being a parent who is worried about your kiddos, or being someone who is dealing with your own anxiety, sadness or relationship struggles.

So many things are going on in our world right now that can make us feel isolated and alone with our overactive thoughts and feelings about ourselves or our concerns about whether we are raising our precious offspring in a way that will give them grit and resilience to face life’s obstacles. All of us are being bombarded by social media  and a myriad of conflicting opinions about how to navigate parenting, marriages and our own personal pain.

Sometimes we just need someone in our corner.  I would love to be on your team and support you in moving toward the life you want to create.

My experience includes 8 years as a Counselor and Mental Health Services Provider in a K-8 school setting where I worked extensively with students, families and staff. For the past three years I have been in private practice as well as supervising an intern providing mental health in a school setting and consulting with other schools. I also have a background and experience in the business world, working in the legal real estate and land use industry which has given me hands-on training in navigating a work environment and learning win-win negotiation skills and conflict resolution.

A primary area of practice and passion is supporting kids and teens, as well as adults with anxiety or OCD, using interventions such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness.

I also love assisting parents with psychoeducation and effective, structured, evidenced based methods to address those difficulties in their children. Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions  and Parent Based Training for Highly Dependent Adult Children are models that can empower you with strategies without your child or teen  even having to participate if they are not ready to come to therapy themselves. This does not mean you are doing anything wrong as a parent, it just means there are supportive ways to respond to our kiddos and processes we can engage in that most of us are not even aware of.

For families who are struggling with ADHD, autism, anger or behavior problems, I’d be excited to equip both you and your child with powerful and actionable approaches to relieve these difficulties and to empower you to be a sturdy family leader. My training and certifications in Positive Discipline, Collaborative Problem Solving, and Nonviolent Resistance and as an Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist can provide you with solid, structured tools to help you answer those “and what about when that doesn’t work” questions. You can bring your real life, this is happening now, challenges to our sessions and leave feelings like you have some hope and someone in your corner to continue to figure it out!

I also work with adults of all ages struggling with life challenges and couples who want to create more connection, intimacy and fun in their relationships or want support to separate and co-parent in a respectful, collaborative way.
